  • Last Position:
  • Driver Trainer
  • Business Type:
  • Transportation

Job Description

  • Detailed Responsibilities of a Driver Trainer at DHL:
  • 1) Driver Training
  • - Conduct training for new drivers before they start work, such as safety rules, operating procedures, company standards, routes, documents, and transportation requirements.
  • - Conduct periodic refresher training for existing drivers to maintain driving and operational standards.
  • - Provide specific skills training such as defensive driving, hazard awareness, fatigue awareness, vehicle checks, loading/unloading safety, and emergency response, in accordance with DHL Freight's documentation regarding annual occupational health and safety training for drivers and dangerous goods training according to established schedules.
  • 2) Driver Competency Assessment
  • - Conduct theoretical and practical tests before approving drivers for assignments.
  • - Evaluate actual driving performance on the road or at the job site.
  • - Verify driver readiness, such as license, driving history, understanding of regulations, and ability to use company equipment/systems.
  • - Conduct individual assessments to determine if they meet standards and identify areas for improvement. The term "assessments" is clearly specified in the DHL job posting for this position.
  • 3) Coaching and Monitoring Driving Behavior
  • - Conduct on-site or ride-along activities to monitor drivers' actual behavior.
  • Provide individual feedback on aspects such as speed, spacing, braking/acceleration, cornering, reversing, eye contact, and risk management.
  • - Implement corrective coaching for drivers with risky behaviors or incidents.
  • - Shift training from "one-time instruction" to "continuous development" through coaching plans and refresher training.
  • 4) Oversee transportation safety:
  • - Promote company-standard safe driving practices.
  • - Reduce near misses, collisions, vehicle damage, and risks to people/goods.
  • - Teach and supervise pre-trip/post-trip inspections.
  • - Reinforce the use of safety equipment, safe parking procedures, reversing, customer access, and on-site procedures.
  • - Support a safety culture within the transport team, aligning with DHL's emphasis on occupational health and safety training, risk assessments, and operational safety standards.
  • 5) Ensure compliance with laws and regulations:
  • - Verify that drivers comply with transportation laws and internal company rules.
  • - Track compliance documents related to drivers and vehicles.
  • - Help drivers understand requirements regarding driving hours, vehicle inspections, safety, and operational standards.
  • - Ensure operations are ready for internal/external audits. Because in DHL Transport's work, it clearly specifies maintaining and updating compliance records and files and implementing a driver safety program.
  • 6) Using data and telematics to develop drivers:
  • -Analyzing driving behavior data from telematics/GPS/onboard systems.
  • -Monitoring indicators such as overspeed, harsh braking, harsh acceleration, idling, cornering, seat belt compliance, or other risky behaviors.
  • -Using real data for individual coaching.
  • -Helping to reduce costs and increase efficiency, as the DHL transport asset management document directly mentions telematics and driver behaviour support.
  • 7) Helping to increase transportation efficiency:
  • -Teaching driving techniques that save fuel and reduce vehicle wear and tear.
  • -Improving punctuality, delivery quality, and the care of company assets.
  • -Reducing downtime from accidents or improper vehicle use.
  • -Supporting more efficient operations, which aligns with the role description of making transportation efficient, not just safe.
  • 8) Investigating and preventing recurrence of incidents:
  • -Helping to analyze incidents/accidents related to driving.
  • -Finding behavioral and process-related root causes.
  • -Planning re-training or corrective actions.
  • -Monitoring the results after training to see if behavior has improved.
  • -This type of work is a continuation of DHL's driver safety program, assessments, and compliance support role. Although some announcements may not list every detail, it directly aligns with the responsibilities of the transport safety/training role.
  • 9) Document, report, and record training:
  • -Record driver training results and assessments.
  • -Create training matrices, training records, assessment records, and license/training status.
  • -Report safety and driver development KPIs to supervisors or transport management.
  • -Prepare documentation to support audits or compliance checks.
  • 10) Collaborate with multiple departments:
  • -Coordinate with the Transport Manager, Fleet Team, Safety Team, Operations, HR, and sometimes subcontractor drivers.
  • -Support managers in improving driver standards and transport quality.
  • -Assist with onboarding and retraining for both permanent and contract employees, based on the transport asset management and safety/compliance training employed by DHL in its actual transport operation.
